Scrap University Kids is now Recycling is like Magic!

We founded Scrap University Kids in April 2022 to make metal recycling fun and easy for kids. By engaging children, we aim to inspire behavioral change in them and their families, ensuring no one ever throws a can in the trash again. Recycling metal is one of the simplest ways to help protect our oceans and planet—and you can even earn money at your local scrapyard!

Recycling is like magic! We hope you enjoy our books, metal recycling classes, coloring pages, and worksheets. Happy reading and recycling! Remember, once you learn to read, you can do anything—even save our planet one can at a time!

Thanks a MILLION for your support!

What Our Young Readers Are Saying!

Kids Love Our Books!

Book Review

Owen really connected with the first book "The Girl Who Recycled One Million Cans". Owen is inspired to help the planet by recycling at home. He took the book to his Kindergarten class and his teacher read it to the class so other kids can learn how they can help the planet.

So, I am happy to report that Owen's interest in metal recycling has now gone up another notch after reading,
" A Trip to the Scrapyard". Owen was excited to read this book and see what new lessons Ellie and her friends were up to. We have really enjoyed reading this together and see Owen's enthusiasm, especially for the metal shredding process and how the metal gets re-used. He understood how important this is.

After reading the book he took these actions: looking around at our house for other metal items to be recycled and using magnets. The metal shredder was a big highlight- he wants to see one in real life. As expected, he has taken the book to school to share with classmates: Owen thought Ellie and her class were so lucky to have a field trip to the scrapyard!

We Need to Be More Like Unicorns!

By: Ellie S. Rudover
Illustrated by: Adam Trask

Ellie, aged 8, shares a charming story in her book, We Need to Be More Like Unicorns. The story highlights the magical superpowers, kindness, humor, and inclusivity of unicorns. She beautifully reminds us of the beauty in everyone and encourages spreading love and happiness, just like these mythical creatures. Her story is a heartwarming call to embrace positivity and compassion in our everyday interactions.

About The Author

Ellie, an 8-year-old from Vancouver, BC, adores unicorns and has a passion for recycling. Her dad taught her the importance of caring for our planet and showed her how recycling can make a difference—and even earn some money. He also inspired Ellie to believe in herself, telling her that once she could read, she could achieve anything, even write her own book. Ellie believes in spreading love and kindness, much like unicorns do.

She thinks loving everyone is crucial and hopes her story brings joy and inspires creativity to make the world a better place. When she's not busy, Ellie & her sister Lexi love playing with toy unicorns. They found the ones from Schleich are the most realistic, highest quality, and come with a variety of accessories.
